Brenten Handfield

Born in Miami and raised in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Brenten Handfield discovered jazz at a Frost School summer camp for young musicians in 2018 and graduated from Frost in May 2026 with a degree in Studio Music and Jazz, named the school’s Outstanding Senior in jazz performance. Since his sophomore year he has been the drummer in trumpeter and Frost professor Etienne Charles’s sextet Creole Soul, including a Lincoln Center concert in October 2025 and a homecoming show in Trinidad.

Brenten also plays with Nu Deco Ensemble and the band Swamp Lilly, performs in a saxophone-and-steel-pan duo with his father, a music teacher, and plans to go on to a master’s degree.
