Kevin Stevens
Touring Europe With Neon Neon
Los Angeles based freelance drummer, Kevin Stevens, is a graduate of the acclaimed University of Miami-Jazz department, where he studied drum set, classical and world percussion, arranging and composition. Kevin wears many hats behind the kit. On any given day he can be found playing indie-rock, jazz, funk, pop, R&B, or big band. Kevin's extensive musical ability is in demand by a selective mix of eclectic jazz, funk, roots, pop and rock artists. In addition to recording sessions for artists and soundtracks, in the last 2 years, Kevin has appeared drumming on screen in some of the biggest prime time TV shows (CSI Vegas, The O.C., Frasier, and American Dreams) and most recently in the video for the hugely popular song by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw "Like We Never Loved at All."
Kevin is currently a member of the up and coming candy-pop, noise band, Meow Meow. Their debut CD, Snow Gas Bones, is getting tremendous press in Rolling Stone & NME. With all members sharing vocal duties and swapping instruments, they've brought their kaleidoscopic live shows to the west coast, Austin's infamous SXSW, and soon to the UK and Japan.

Kevin is also performing with Pearl Aday (who happens to be Meat Loaf's daughter.) Their blistering live sets have created quite a buzz around Los Angeles while her debut CD produced by Bruce Robb (Rod Stewart, John Melloncamp, Shelby Lynn) will be available in 2005.

Kevin is also well known as the flamboyant and energetic leader/drummer of San Francisco's dynamic Brass Monkey Brass Band (BMBB). While BMBB has shared the stage with everyone from Bobby McFerrin to Zigaboo Modeliste (drummer from The Meters), their relentless high-energy shows have thrilled audiences from The Fillmore to The Monterey Jazz Festival. The band's debut CD, Live in Time and Space, won critical praise and radio play in the US and Europe. BMBB's follow-up CD, The Highest Good, has been 2 years in the making and is now available.

Story:
Kevin grew up in Denver, Colorado where he began private study on the drums at 8 years old. During high school, he spent two years touring with The Caspar Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps from Caspar, Wyoming (1986/tenors & 1990/snare). As a senior, Kevin was chosen for Colorado’s All-State Jazz Band and All-State Concert Band.

After studying Civil Engineering for a year at CU-Boulder, Kevin decided to follow his dreams in music and he applied to the highly acclaimed University of Miami, Jazz Department. While earning his performance degree, Kevin played in many of the school’s wide variety of ensembles including one of the top big bands in the country and the National Award-winning Bebop Ensemble.

After graduating, Kevin moved out West to become part of San Francisco's fertile music scene. In his 6 years in S.F., Kevin established himself as one of the city’s top all-around drummers while recording and touring with S.F’s different jazz, swing, funk and rock artists.

In '98 and '99 Kevin spent time as a member of The New Morty Show, one of the nation's top swing acts. Multiple US tours and international TV appearances helped him to develop relationships with Paiste Cymbals and Attack Drumheads. Kevin's "powerhouse drumming" was singled out in an Alternative Press article about the band.

Other S.F. projects of Kevin's include the ECM, Euro-jazz inspired Dam East and the original rock band, Them There, whose debut CD, The Gift of Reason, made it to #7 on the CMJ charts in 1999.

In August of 2003, Kevin moved to Los Angeles and quickly found himself busy playing and recording with some of the world's best musicians.
