After graduating from U.M. with a master's degree, Austin went to Europe by way of an invitation to a jazz workshop held in Germany.  While there, he developed relationships with many of the programs faculty and students which led to performances in Finland, France and Switzerland.  Since he was enjoying his time in Europe so much, he choose to extend his stay in order to travel and experience life in different cultural settings.  He then went to Barcelona, Spain where he stayed for about two months.  While there he met a lot of great musicians and was a regular at the local jam sessions where he left his mark on the scene.  Although Europe had much to offer, he felt that his time there had enriched him and inspired him to embrace his own culture and pursue his dreams among his established community of musicians.

Austin then spent some months in New Jersey due to a job offer to be a drum instructor at his former high school.  This was a great opportunity and also an ideal location for checking out New York's plentiful music scene and putting in countless hours in the practice room.

Austin moved to Boston, Massachusetts in late november 2004 where his girlfriend was attending New England Conservatory.  He developed relationships with many of the musicians at the conservatory and made himself known at the local jazz jam sessions.  After only a few months in Boston, Austin maintains a busy performance schedule in New England jazz clubs and has been touring with a boston group, the Audrey Ryan Band and will appear on the band's CD to be released in the winter of 2005.

As of late, Austin has been exploring many different styles of music including music from Peru, Argentina and Klezmer music thanks to Boston's diverse community of musicians. His highlight for the summer of 2005 was performing at the Jazz Aspen festival in Aspen, Colorado.
